How digested can that food really be? What I really am, midway through the transatlantic staring contest, is bored." Have been there, and end up regretting it.
So, Dear Kym, I am reading your article on 02-04-2021 during Covid-19 and online schooling. Our children, the advantaged ones who can actually access the online schooling, they start school by 8:15 am, have a lunch break by 11:00sh. They would have eaten a quick breakfast or not. They eat lunch and go back in front of the screen; sometimes they are given a break to read a book, online. Around 2:40PM they are done with school. They are tired and hungry, so they crush on the couch, put the screen on and start playing games with their friends from the other side of the TV.
Do you have any advice you can give parents on how we can help our kids, who stay in their room, to study, to eat, to play games, and keep on eating with little or no moving at all. How can they eat so much without moving to burn what they have eaten? When my son complains that he is "really sooo hungry, my stomach is dying", I joke around to distract him saying like: "Great! You feel hungry? Thank God you, are alive. Now, command your stomach to stop. How can something which cannot talk lord it over you? (my mother's favorite proverb). Of course I feed the boys, and we are pretty active-dancing in the leaving rooking with daddy, walking with me, going out bike/play with friends,...
I am aware that not all children have this opportunity, we live in a zip code where we can do that. Please give us helpful tips to defeat "compulsory eating". I am doing the same right now and find myself thinking about the connection between compulsive buying and compulsive eating. Your post is great! Totally agree. Thank you.
